Disney World Crowd Calendar: The Best Days to Visit in January 2027

Find the best days to visit Disney World in January 2027, with crowd predictions, weather tips, events, and planning advice.

The Best Days to Visit Disney World in January 2027

January has several good opportunities for a Disney World trip, but special events can affect crowds throughout the month. Based on the MouseDays Crowd Calendar, these are the weeks I'd look at first.

  • January 6–11: Early January is worth considering if you're looking for lower crowds. Marathon Weekend runs January 6–10, so expect race-related activity around the resort. Hollywood Studios also has Disney Jollywood Nights scheduled for January 3 and 5, which may affect park hours and evening plans on those dates.
  • January 15–21: This is another promising window, especially if you want to visit EPCOT during the Festival of the Arts. The MLK holiday weekend and cheer/dance competitions fall within this period, so crowds may vary from one day to the next. Compare individual dates before deciding when to visit each park.
  • January 27–31: The end of the month is another good option to consider. Crowds are expected to be low, but cheer/dance competitions are scheduled during this period. The Skyliner is also expected to be closed for planned maintenance.

These are starting points, not guarantees of low crowds every day. Your best dates will also depend on which parks you want to visit and what's happening during your stay.

January Events to Know About

January has a few events worth knowing about before you plan your trip.

Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend: January 6–10

The annual runDisney event brings runners to Walt Disney World for several days of races. You may encounter road closures or transportation changes around the resort in the mornings.

You don't need to avoid the parks during Marathon Weekend. Just check the race schedule and allow extra time for transportation, especially if you're planning an early park arrival.

EPCOT International Festival of the Arts: January 15–March 1

EPCOT's Festival of the Arts returns January 15 and runs through March 1, 2027. The festival features art displays, food and drinks, and interactive experiences. It's a great bonus for a Januray trip.

The festival is included with valid EPCOT admission. Food, drinks, and some experiences cost extra.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: January 18

Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on Monday, January 18, 2027. Holiday weekends can bring additional visitors and locals to Disney World.

If you're visiting in the middle of the month, compare your dates carefully. Don't assume every day that week will have the same crowd levels.

What Is the Weather Like at Disney World in January?

January is one of the cooler months in Orlando. It's often comfortable for spending long days in the parks, but temperatures can change throughout the day.

Orlando's long-term January averages are about 72°F for the high and 50°F for the low. Actual temperatures vary, so check the forecast before your trip.

A few things to remember:

  • Pack layers. Mornings and evenings can be chilly, even when the afternoon is warm.
  • Bring (or purchase!) a light jacket/sweatshirt. You'll may appreciate it while waiting for rope drop or watching nighttime entertainment.
  • Check the forecast. Don't assume every day will be warm just because you're visiting Florida. Similarly, don't assume that it will be cold just because it's January. Florida's weather can be fickle.
  • Swimming is still possible. All Disney World Resort pools are heated to around 82°F, so your little ones may still enjoy a swim even when the air feels chilly. Just pack warm clothes for when they get out!

Check for Ride Closures Before Your Trip

Crowds aren't the only thing that can affect your plans. Disney regularly schedules attraction refurbishments for maintenance, repairs, and upgrades. Some rides may be temporarily unavailable during your visit.

This matters most when your group has a few must-do attractions. If your favorite ride is closed, you may want to choose different dates or adjust which parks you visit.

The Disney Skyliner is scheduled for routine maintenance from January 24–30 2027, and is expected to reopen on January 31. If you're staying at a resort that uses the Skyliner for transportation, you will have to rely on the buses instead. This can be disappointing for those looking forward to the convenience and fun of riding the Skyliner.

Check Disney's official calendar and refurbishment information before booking. Check again closer to your trip because schedules can change.

It's also worth checking park hours and nighttime entertainment schedules. A park with shorter hours may not be the best choice for your full park day.

How to Plan Your Park Days

Once you've chosen your travel dates, decide which park to visit each day.

  1. Compare predicted crowds. Look at individual dates rather than assuming an entire week will be equally busy.
  2. Choose parks around your priorities. The least crowded park isn't necessarily the best choice if it doesn't have the attractions your group wants.
  3. Plan your must-do rides. Decide which attractions matter most and build your rope-drop strategy around them.
  4. Leave room for changes. Weather, ride closures, and changing wait times may affect your plans.

Use the MouseDays Crowd Calendar to compare your dates, then try the MouseDays Park Planner to help decide which parks to visit each day.

Is January a Good Time to Visit Disney World?

Yes! January offers pleasant weather, seasonal entertainment, and opportunities to find lower crowds.

I'd start by comparing dates in the beginning and final weeks of the month. Keep the holiday and race schedules in mind, and check for attraction refurbishments before settling on your plans.

Once you've chosen your dates, you can focus on what matters most: picking your parks, planning your must-do rides, and making the most of your vacation.
